- Use regular woodworking tools to cut and shape this material. Try to leave as much of the surface area untouched as possible to retain as much of the colored dye as possible. Due to the density of buffalo horn, the dye is only able to penetrate about 1mm deep into the material. Also please note that any cut or sanded portions will temporarily appear gray-- just polish and buff these areas to return them to a beautiful, deep, glossy sheen.
